Emmanuelle is now aged 11 and lives with his mum who is also a single parent. He is doing well in school although he sometimes misses classes as he struggles to help his two brothers care for his Mum who suffers with mental illness. There is still a great stigma attached to mental illness in outlying parts of Rwanda, and because of this the whole family are subjected to harassment by the neighbouring families. Emmanuelle is very sensitive, and finds this upsetting.
Emmanuelle’s has been in the programme for two years, his favorite subject is English, and he wants to be a lawyer.
School fees are £113.23 per year including books, pencils etc. School uniform is around £17.42 and the average cost of a pair of shoes is £6.96. Children tend to grow out of clothes and shoes very quickly, therefore if in good condition, these are always passed on to other children in need. Lifelink will continue to fund Emmanuelle's education.
